What was it that brought you into using the Theremin in the first place?
Hello to YOU, Shuehli! How are YOU, Shuehli? If u dont mind me asking, are you having any performances scheduled in the upstate New York region in the not-too-distant future? Possibly in the vicinity of Albany or Schenectady that you might know of? I think I’d like to see 1 of your performances. Electronic music sounds intriguing to me. Thanx.
Hi Shueh-li. I was very impressed with your playing style at Electro-Music. Where did you learn to play like that? Which artists inspired you?
Shueh-li.. Is it true that I am your favorite person?

Thanks Jose! I studied with a professor of piano (Freiburg academy) & electronic music from Tristram Cary (EMS) at the Elder Conservatorium in Australia. Then with post-grad mentor Jeff Pressing (author of synth technique, Keyboard mag) who drilled into me proper performance tips & tricks/synthesis. I’ve since developed my own playing style; phrasing is inflection, intention, & parts of speech strung together. Synthesis & keyboard preparation, provide me with control over parameters/dynamics of sounds I create. I picked up the theremin in 1998 and am still reinventing it & me in relation to it. I activate its colours through processing combined with articulation in live performance. All part of the behind the scenes work for live-performance to appear magical & for the performer then to be free to emote. (Some influences : Kate Bush/George Duke/Metheny/Fitzgerald/Emerson/Wakeman/all genres of music - no prejudices!)

Answer: Hello Tim and thanks for dropping by. I hope to be performing in NY sometime soon, maybe even later this year; 2013. I’ll put you on my mailing list so you’ll be the 1st to know!

What was it that brought you into using the Theremin in the first place?
As a student of electronic music, I was interested in preserving the old while pursuing new technologies. My fascination with the theremin, compelled me to give myself to its study, along with the instruments that eventually became my mainstay arsenal; extended synth performance and tin whistle playing (with guqin and voice on the side).
Mike, you’ve been a great friend and supporter of my musical pursuits; both in the US and NZ. Thank you for these and more!!
